An aerial is the cheapest way to get live television on a pitch, and on a European tour it is also the least predictable. Terrestrial coverage on the continent is patchier than in Britain, differs country by country, and vanishes behind a hill the moment you leave a main road. Where a transmitter is in reach these aerials will find it. Where there is none, no aerial will, and a dish is the honest answer.
There are three ways to do it. A passive magnetic aerial needs no power at all: it goes on the roof, the coax goes into the television, and that is the installation. An amplified magnetic aerial adds a small amplifier fed from the set’s USB socket, which helps where a signal is weak rather than absent. A permanently roof-mounted antenna stays on the vehicle, is fixed and cabled once, and can feed two televisions from one cable run.
All of them are omni-directional, so there is nothing to aim, wind up or turn towards a mast. Retune at every new site: a different location usually means a different transmitter and a different channel list.
Fitting is the owner’s job and is meant to be. The magnetic aerials are plug and play. The roof-mounted one needs one fixing and one cable run, and nothing more specialised than that.
A domestic set-top aerial is designed to sit indoors within reach of a rooftop installation. Parked in a field it usually finds very little. A magnetic or roof-mounted aerial gets height, weatherproofing and a proper cable, which is most of what reception on the move actually depends on.
An amplifier boosts what the aerial already picks up, which helps at the edge of a transmitter’s range. It cannot create a signal where there is none, and in a strong area it can overload the tuner and make things worse. The passive Falcon magnetic aerial needs no power at all, while the amplified version takes its power from the television’s USB socket.
The magnetic-mount aerials carry DAB as well as television down the same lead, so one unit covers both. The roof-mounted UFO antenna is a television aerial only.
The magnetic ones are not really fitted at all: place them on the roof, run the lead in through a window or an existing gland, plug in and retune. The roof-mounted antenna is a permanent job, one fixing and one cable run, and it is well within reach of anyone comfortable with a drill and a tube of sealant.

Just received my Falcon Mobile WiFi Router 4G Combo Deluxe and what a joy to behold, from unboxing the hard padded storage case containing all we need to get on line in our caravan, the ease of setting up was fantastic within 5 mins of plugging in the power cable I was on line. Can recommend this piece of kit.Posted on Google![]()

Posted on Google![]()

As well as excellent products, Falcon’s customer service is second to none. They are very responsive and helpful. I use two products: the wireless reversing camera and the 5g mobile WiFi router. I am very, very happy with both. The products are of excellent build quality and you feel that Falcon really understands their market by including useful features and equipment. It’s a pleasure buying from them and using their products.
