Everything in this category includes the router. That is the first thing to know, because the same three systems are sold in two forms, and the antenna-only versions live on a separate page. If you are comparing two products that look identical and the prices are a long way apart, this is almost always the reason.
A kit here is complete as supplied: the antenna, the mounting hardware, the docking station where the system has one, and a portable Falcon 5G router. Add a data SIM and it works.
5G is worth the difference over 4G in three situations: you work online and cannot afford a connection that stalls, several people stream at once, or you spend most of your time in and around towns, where the coverage is concentrated. Away from that, these systems drop back to 4G automatically, so a 5G kit is never worse than a 4G one, it is simply better in the places 5G has reached.
There are two shapes of system. A roof antenna is permanent, always aligned and always ready, and it needs a single hole and one cable run down to the docking station inside. A portable window antenna needs no fixing at all, holds with a suction cup or a magnet, and can go with you when you leave the vehicle. The EVO Flex is the one that does both, with a roof antenna for the van and a portable antenna for everywhere else, sharing one router.
All three routers are pocket-sized, run on their own battery and can be used away from the vehicle, which is a large part of why a kit is worth more than the sum of its parts. Where the system has a docking station, the router simply lifts off it.
If you already own a portable router with TS9 antenna sockets, you do not need another one. Look at the antenna sets under 5G Ready Antennas instead.
Yes. Every product in this category is supplied with a portable Falcon 5G router, along with the antenna and, where the system uses one, the internal charging docking station. Nothing here is sold as a bare antenna. The antenna-only versions of the same three systems are listed separately, for owners who already have a suitable router.
A roof antenna gives the steadier result because it is outside the body, high up and permanently aligned, and you never have to think about it again once the single hole is drilled. A portable antenna needs no fixing, suckers to a window in a minute and leaves the vehicle unaltered. The Sniper 5G is the straightforward roof option; if you want both, the EVO Flex includes a roof antenna and a portable one.
It depends far more on where you park than on what you do. 5G coverage across Europe is concentrated around cities, larger towns and main routes, and it thins out quickly on the sort of rural pitches many tourers prefer. If that describes your touring, a 4G system spends less and delivers much the same. If you work online, share the connection with a family, or tour mostly near towns, the difference is real and you will notice it.
Yes, and it is one of the better reasons to buy a kit rather than a fixed installation. Where the system has a docking station the router lifts off it, and in every case it runs on its own battery and works on its internal antennas anywhere. The Falcon EVO Flex goes furthest with this, because its portable antenna travels with the router and keeps the boost when the vehicle stays behind.
