Wireless here means one specific thing: no video cable between the camera and the monitor. On a motorhome that cable is the run that puts most owners off fitting a camera at all, because it means lifting trim from the back of the vehicle through to the cab. These systems replace it with a radio link between the camera and a 7 inch mirror monitor.
Range is quoted per system. The Full HD kit is rated at up to 50 metres between camera and monitor, and the magnetic kit at up to 100 metres. Bodywork, a load in the way and the length of the outfit all affect what you get in practice, so treat the figures as a maximum rather than a promise.
Both monitors record. Footage goes to an SD card in the monitor itself rather than to a separate box, and plays back on the monitor or on a computer afterwards. Each monitor also pairs with up to four cameras and can show them one at a time, split, three up or four up.
Power is still needed at the camera. The magnetic camera carries its own rechargeable battery and tops it up from a small solar panel, while the Full HD camera takes a 12V permanent feed. Browse the systems below, or the spare parts and mounts that go with them.
The picture. The camera sends video to the monitor over a radio link, so there is no video cable to route from the rear of the vehicle to the cab, which is the part of a camera installation most owners would rather avoid. Power is a separate question: the magnetic camera carries its own battery, and the Full HD camera takes a 12V permanent feed at the rear.
It depends on the system, and each product page states its own figure. The Full HD kit is quoted at up to 50 metres, and the magnetic kit at up to 100 metres. Metal bodywork, a loaded vehicle and the length of an outfit all reduce what you get in practice, so the figures are a maximum rather than a guarantee.
The monitor writes the camera feed to an SD card that goes into the monitor itself. The Full HD system supports cards up to 512GB and comes with a 64GB card. The magnetic system supports cards up to 128GB and comes with a 32GB card. Recordings play back on the monitor, or later on a PC or Mac.
Yes. Each monitor pairs with up to four cameras and shows them one after another, split screen, three up or four up. That is worth knowing before you buy, because it means a second view later on is an extra camera rather than a different system.
