This page is about a fixed address, not a touring vehicle. If the line into the building is slow, if the exchange is a long way off, or if fibre has simply never arrived, a 4G system will often give a better everyday connection than the copper already there.
The principle is the same one that makes mobile signal poor indoors: the building is in the way. An antenna outside on a wall bracket, mounted high on a gable or a short mast, with one cable run in to the router, is regularly the difference between one bar on a phone and a connection the whole household can use.
It suits rural houses, converted barns, cabins, workshops, holiday lets and long-stay pitches where a fixed line is not on offer. It also makes a sensible standby for anyone who works from home and cannot lose a day when the line goes down.
What decides whether it works is signal, not distance from a town. If a phone finds a usable 4G signal somewhere on the plot, an outdoor antenna at the right height can usually turn that into something stable indoors. If there is no signal outside at all, no antenna can invent one, and that is worth walking round the property to check before you spend anything.
Fitting is a job most owners take on themselves: a wall bracket, one cable entry and a router that plugs in indoors. There is no line to install and no engineer visit to wait for.
It is home broadband delivered over the mobile network instead of a cable. A router with a data SIM does the work a modem would normally do, and an outdoor antenna gives it a clear view of the mast. There is no line rental, no installation appointment and nothing to dig in, which is why it is often the fastest route to a usable connection at an address the fixed networks have not reached.
Frequently, yes. Where a copper line is delivering a few megabits over a long run, a 4G connection with a properly mounted outdoor antenna will usually deliver several times that, and it tends to be steadier on video calls. Where fibre is already available at the address, fixed will normally still win, and this is not the right purchase.
Walk the plot with a phone and watch the signal, particularly at the highest point on the building and on the side facing the nearest large town. What you find outdoors is roughly what an antenna will have to work with, and mounting height often matters more than direction, because the antenna takes signal from all round. If nothing outside gives a workable signal, an antenna cannot create one.
If this is the household’s main connection, look for a high-allowance or unlimited data tariff, because a router serving a whole house consumes what a fixed line would. Allowances, fair use limits and speed caps vary considerably between countries and operators, so compare the data terms rather than the headline speed.

Just received my Falcon Mobile WiFi Router 4G Combo Deluxe and what a joy to behold, from unboxing the hard padded storage case containing all we need to get on line in our caravan, the ease of setting up was fantastic within 5 mins of plugging in the power cable I was on line. Can recommend this piece of kit.Posted on Google![]()

Posted on Google![]()

As well as excellent products, Falcon’s customer service is second to none. They are very responsive and helpful. I use two products: the wireless reversing camera and the 5g mobile WiFi router. I am very, very happy with both. The products are of excellent build quality and you feel that Falcon really understands their market by including useful features and equipment. It’s a pleasure buying from them and using their products.
