A portable dish is the answer to the pitch where the aerial finds nothing. It sets up on the ground beside the vehicle, it comes down again in a couple of minutes, and it leaves no holes in the roof and nothing standing proud when you drive off.
The kit stocked here is the QuickSAT Deluxe, in two dish sizes. Both are flat panel designs that fold into their own carry case rather than round dishes on a tripod, which is why the whole system goes in a locker. Both carry an alignment and elevation device on the back of the dish, so setting the angle is a reading rather than a guess, and the Deluxe version adds a signal finder for the case where your receiver has no preset list to lock onto.
What you can watch depends on the receiver, not on the dish. Any television with a built-in satellite tuner will work, as will a separate free-to-air receiver, and a 12V receiver can be supplied as an option if you do not have one. Which satellite you aim at, and what comes off it where you are parked, is decided by that receiver and by your position, so settle the line-up you want before you settle the kit.
Nothing here is fitted to the vehicle, and that is the point. It is the option for people who move on often, store the vehicle over winter, or simply will not drill a hole in a roof they have to keep watertight.
You stand it on the ground clear of trees and clear of the vehicle itself, set the elevation using the scale on the back, then turn it slowly until the receiver locks on. The first time takes a while. After that it is a few minutes.
A roof dish is more convenient day to day and costs you a permanent installation, extra height and a hole in the roof. A portable dish costs you a few minutes at each stop and can be walked out of the shadow of a tree, which a roof dish never can. If you change pitches often or store the vehicle, portable is usually the better trade.
You need a satellite tuner somewhere in the chain. Many televisions have one built in, including the Falcon WebOS sets. If yours does not, a 12V free-to-air receiver can be supplied with the kit as an option.
There are two. The smaller one packs down further and is quicker to handle at each stop. The larger flat panel collects more signal, which counts for more the further you travel. See the QuickSAT Deluxe for both.
